Writing about films for The Independent has been an honor the last four years, so can you imagine how amazed and excited I was about having a chance to be in one!
A feature-length film with a — hold your breath — $30 million budget. (My grandmother reminds me that some houses on the East End sell for that amount.)
It's a film about kids and poker and family, and I just can't believe what's happening. Besides being invited to be in it, I was given permission to ask eight, and only eight, other local middle schoolers to be in the movie, too. I have to tell you that it was the hardest part of this whole dream, picking only eight and leaving out other kids. Really hard to make those kinds of decisions. But we are supposed to be off to Hollywood in the late summer, local parents are coming along to chaperone. And even Sergeant Rich Schneider, who graduated from East Hampton High with my Dad, is coming along. Now that I've been bitten by the bug, I understand the same guys are doing another film with teenagers later, a horror film. That gives me ideas!
