John Steinbeck Events

In 2002, a number of local artists, writers, and business people from Sag Harbor formed a committee to commemorate the life and works of the literary Nobel laureate, John Steinbeck, who called the village his home from 1953-1968. This Saturday, the committee has set up Steinbeck-themed events in order to raise funds for its Annual John Steinbeck Pierson High School Writing Award.

A literary walking tour, led by professor Mark Ciabattari will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., beginning at Canio's Books. A prix-fixe dinner will be offered at The American Hotel, with seatings from 5 to 6 p.m., and a screening of Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath will be given in the rotunda of the John Jermain Memorial Library from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. An introduction will be given by playwright Joe Pintauro.

Ticket prices are as follows: For the walking tour, movie, and dinner, $75 per person; walking tour only, $25 adults, $10 students; movie only, $10 adults, $6 students, and movie and dinner, $50 per person. Call 725-5764 for more information.
