In 2002, a number of local artists, writers, and business people from Sag Harbor formed a committee to commemorate the life and works of the literary Nobel laureate, John Steinbeck, who called the village his home from 1953-1968. This Saturday, the committee has set up Steinbeck-themed events in order to raise funds for its Annual John Steinbeck – Pierson High School Writing Award.

A prix-fixe dinner will be offered at The American Hotel, with seatings from 5 to 6 p.m., and a screening of Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath will be given in the rotunda of the John Jermain Memorial Library from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. An introduction will be given by playwright Joe Pintauro.
