Bonackers Boys LAX Start 1-1
The East Hampton boys lacrosse team started its 2006 Division II season with a win, followed by a loss last week before hopping a flight to Orlando, Florida to compete in a multi-team tournament.
On April 4, the Bonackers, one of the favorites to finish among the top teams in Suffolk County's Division II later this spring, picked up a road win in the team's season opener, defeating Islip 13-7 behind the spectacular play of senior Brian Powell. Powell scored four goals in the game and all four came in East Hampton's five-goal second quarter. Teammate Mark Scioscia added a pair of goals and three assists. Tyler Maguire also scored twice for the Bonackers and senior goalkeeper Drew Smith turned aside eight shots.
Last Friday, East Hampton lost 14-9 at Comsewogue despite winning the second half 6-5. Scioscia, the team's leading scorer, tried his best to keep the Bonackers in the game, scoring four goals while senior Zach Brenneman, last year's top goal producer, netted two, giving him nine this year.
Scioscia, who has scored four goals in a game on two separate occasions this season, currently leads East Hampton (3-1 overall, 1-1 in Division II) with 12 goals in four games. He is also the team leader in assists. Maguire is second on the team in goals scored with 10 while Brenneman is third with nine and Powell (seven goals) is fourth on the team.
The Bonackers don't play again until their first home game which is scheduled for next Tuesday when they host Half Hollow Hills West at East Hampton High School at 4 p.m.
