According to organizers Kate Ganga Syfert and Megan Collins Ganga's event posting on Facebook, Bob Orr and his wife Donna have always stepped up when help was needed, serving as active members of a variety of civic organizations.
Now they need the community's help.
A lifelong local resident, Bob Orr has been diagnosed with osteomyelitis, an infection affecting the bones of his foot, which has caused him to have a partial amputation and may require further surgery.
After weeks in Stony Brook Hospital, he has just returned home but has to maintain a course of intravenous antibiotics, the pair reported. Further tests are required to define the cause of circulation problems that may have contributed to his condition.
Orr is not covered by health insurance and is now unable to work and the family is struggling. A fundraiser to help the family will be held at the American Legion in Amagansett this Saturday night from 7 to 11 PM. For a suggested donation of $20, enjoy light fare, a cash bar, Chinese auction and raffles.
Even if you don't know the Orrs the evening promises to be a treat for music lovers. The very popular local Blue Collar Band takes center stage with a newly configured lineup, and the promise of the same rocking set list that delights fans. Brian LeClerc and his band, Afflicted, will also perform as will Mr. No Shame's new project, "Telar."
"There's all kinds of reasons to be there," said BCB front man John Havlicek, "but the most important reason is for the Orr family."
