i-tri Fundraiser

Based on the East End, i-tri fosters personal empowerment, self-respect and confidence for at-risk middle school girls. i-tri has started an equipment drive via Facebook and email with a goal to reach $5000 in donations for much needed bikes, helmets, running shoes, swim gear and other items. Anyone interested can go to www.itrigirls.org to donate.

Long Island Comedy Festival

Long Island Comedy Festival presents a comedy fundraiser for the Riverhead Fire Department on Saturday at 5 PM at the fire department on Roanoke Avenue. The show will include dinner and feature comedians John Santo, Frankie Pace, Maria Walsh and Richie Byrne. For tickets visit www.riverheadfd.org.

Spring Fling

The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill presents "Spring Fling" on Saturday at 7:30 PM. The annual benefit event helps support the Museum's year-round education programs for children. Visit www.parrishart.org.

Adoption Day

Join ARF along with other Long Island shelters at the Riverhead Polish Hall from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday. Hundreds of cats and dogs will be available for adoption. Also low cost vaccine and microchipping clinic, refreshments and Chinese raffle. Participating Shelters include: Kent Animal Shelter, North Fork Animal Welfare League, RSVP, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation and Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

All animals at the event are spayed/neutered, vaccinated to their age limit and checked by a veterinarian. Free admission, adoption fees apply. For more information contact michele@arfhamptons.org.

Katy's Courage

The Katy's Courage 5K will take place on Saturday on Water Street in Sag Harbor. Katy's Courage 5K celebrates the life, generosity and bravery of Sag Harbor 12-year-old Katy Stewart who lost her battle with cancer in December 2010.

Proceeds from this year's race will support Katy's Kids, a newly formed partnership with the Children's Museum of the East End to be launched fall 2014. Katy's Kids will provide counseling opportunities for children experiencing grief, as well as support for their families. This will include counseling for areas of loss including death, divorce, adoption and immigration. Also supported will be the Katy's Courage Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan as well as scholarships for students in Sag Harbor and East Hampton schools.

Josh Levine Dinner

Edible School Garden Program and the Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation's annual dinner will take place at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor on Sunday. In November 2010, a tragic tractor accident took the life of young farmer Joshua Levine at Quail Hill Farm in Amagansett. The Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation (JLMF) www.joshualevinefoundation.org was founded shortly after Josh's death in 2011 to identify and support charitable programs which promote good farming practices, healthy eating, education and a sustainable environment. 

The Josh Levine Memorial Annual Dinner celebrates the efforts made by community partners to reverse trends which have made families ill with diet related diseases and obese through unhealthy eating practices.  It also celebrates the life of a young man who saw the value of working the land, growing food, serving the community and providing a healthy environment for his family.

Food Drive

Many people in Southold Town rely on C.A.S.T.'s (Community Action Southold Town) Food Pantry for food assistance. The C.A.S.T. office is busy preparing for the upcoming, April 12 food drive at the following locations: Greenport IGA from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Southold IGA from 9:45 AM to 1:45 PM, King Kullen in Cutchogue from 10 AM to noon and Waldbaums in Mattituck from 10:15 AM to 2:15 PM.  

Montauk Brewathalon

Paddlers For Humanity presents the Spring 2014 Montauk Brewathalon that takes place on April 19 at 2 PM at Montauk Brewing Company. The event includes a row, bike and run. Details and registration are available on www.p4h.org. All proceeds benefit the kids at The Retreat, a safe haven for families in crisis. All teams entries will receive t-shirts, brewathalon glasses and post race beverages courtesy of The Montauk Brewing Company.

Backpacks For Students

Ariana DeMattei, an eighth grader at Westhampton Beach Middle School has announced the date for her second annual Spring SPLASH, sponsored by Human Understanding & Growth Services, Inc., to benefit her charity Backpacks For Fellow Students. The fundraiser will take place on April 26 at Rogers Beach in Westhampton Beach. This will be the second year in which DeMattei will ask for the communities' help in reaching her 2014 goal of raising $20,000 to fill 250 backpacks with required school supplies for area elementary school students.

BFFS is adding new activities for 2014 which include a KanJam Tournament sponsored by Sports Authority. Music will be provided by Michael from East End Entertainment, food made available by Panera and Quogue Country Market, face painting by Emily's Marvelous Masks, fire trucks, prizes and raffles.

On-site registration begins at 10:30 AM KanJam donation is $20 a team and $25 to Splash (free Splash registration if sponsors or donations exceed $25). Lunch is provided to all registered participants. Visit www.backpacksforfellowstudents.org.
