Maureen's Haven, the East End human services organization that provides shelter and support to homeless adults on Long Island's North and South Forks, has announced that renowned television actress Susan Lucci and her son, golfer and reality TV star Andreas Huber, will serve as honorary chairs of the organization's annual Lobster Bash fundraiser. CTREE at Sebonack to benefit the Center for Therapeutic Riding of the East End will take place tomorrow from 6 to 9 PM. The event honors Wolffer Estate Stables.
Local veterinarian Dr. Scarlett Magda and animal advocate Georgina Bloomberg will host an event celebrating our oceans and the local conservation initiatives that support them. The event kicks off at 7 PM tomorrow at Silas Marder Gallery in Bridgehampton with educators from the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. There will be a live "touch tank" demonstration from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County SPAT (Southold Project in Aquaculture Training) and local conservation heroes sharing their experiences. Gina Bradley—Founder of Paddle Diva and local ocean activist—will be on hand to talk about her first hand experiences with the East End's waters and the need to let our ocean's rest. Then, as the sun sets, the audience will enjoy a special screening of "Mission of Mermaids" by Susan Rockefeller and "Planet Ocean" by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The event is free and donations can be made to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge or the Cornell SPAT program to support local conservation initiatives. Dunk Your Kicks
The Max Cure Foundation presents "Dunk Your Kicks" a three on three basketball tournament on Saturday at the Ross School in East Hampton. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the Max Cure Foundation for Pediatric Cancer causes. Everyone is encouraged to donate a pair of already worn sneakers. To register visit www.maxcure.org.
The Independent is hosting an afternoon tea with a 50/50 raffle and silent auction to benefit Walk to defeat ALS on Saturday at our East Hampton office from 3 to 6 PM. Rock Around The Clock
Rock Around The Clock Benefit Dance with DJ Louis del Prete will take place at Riverhead Polish Hall on August 30 from 8 PM to midnight. The evening benefits the Hamptons Dancers AARP Community Group, which provides free or low cost dance, movement and wellness programs for seniors, those with HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's and other chronic illnesses. Box Art Auction
More than 75 of the finest artists on Long Island's East End have again created memorable art boxes for an auction benefiting the East End Hospice. The 13th Annual Box Art Auction will take place on September 7 at the Ross School Center for Well-Being on Goodfriend Drive in East Hampton.
The silent auction will begin at 4:30 PM with a live auction at 6 PM. All proceeds will benefit East End Hospice, which provides care for terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones living on the North and South Forks of Long Island, including the Eastern Suffolk County townships of Brookhaven. The Box Art Auction is East End Hospice's only summer event in East Hampton.
Admission to the September 7 benefit auction is $75, which includes wine and hors d'oeuvres.
The public is invited to a free preview "Meet the Artists" reception at Hoie Hall at St. Luke's Church in East Hampton (18 James Lane) on August 28 from 5 to 7 PM. Prior to the auction, the boxes will be on view at Hoie Hall on August 28 and 29 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
