"I was honored and delighted when I was asked to guest chef this great event," English told Indy this week. "Cancer research is something that is very near and dear to my heart, as it has affected my life and my family with the loss of my sister to breast cancer. I am always doing whatever I can to help support the fight to find a cure."
English continued, "The work that Samuel Waxman and his foundation are doing is just remarkable and inspiring. There's nothing better than getting together with like-minded people to enjoy good friends and good food and to give back at the same time. This event will help spread awareness and raise funds, so I'm really looking forward to it and to enjoying a nice weekend in the Hamptons . . . It'll be my first trip out this summer!"
English's participating restaurants will be Ca Va, Curly Cakes, Todd English Olives, TE Todd English, Todd English Food Hall and Tuscany at Mohegan Sun.
Along with Todd English, Ruth Finley, founder of the Fashion Calendar will also be honored. Adam Alpert, owner of 4 AM DJS, has donated one of his hottest DJs, DJ Theory, guaranteed to keep the dance floor packed. MC for the evening is CBS Anchor, Chris Wragge.
The SWCRF is an international organization that is dedicated to finding the cure for cancer as well as preventing the disease, using minimally toxic treatments. Samuel Waxman told Indy, "The ninth Hamptons Happening is a special event for raising the visibility of the unique mission of the SWCRF's international collaboration to provide the science to result in minimally toxic treatments for all forms of cancer."
Waxman also spoke of this year's event, "The remarkable Hamptons Happening team, local involvement and generous support from individual sponsors of research programs is an example of collaboration for a cancer cure."
Marion Waxman, Samuel's wife, has worked all year on this summers extravaganza. "I am very excited that this years Hamptons Happening is our most successful event to date. This enables the SWCRF to support research in pediatric, breast cancer, and leukemia," she said.
Marion continued, "We are very fortunate to have a generous community of talented chefs, amazing honorees, a great benefit committee, and a devoted staff as well as a talented event planner. Many local businesses like The Independent have contributed to this success with media exposure each year." The Independent Newspaper is a sponsor of this year's Hamptons Happening Feast.
Co-chair of the Hamptons Happening Feast, Laurie Schaffran, also spoke to Indy and said, "As co-chair of the Hamptons Happening with Marion Waxman since its inception nine years ago, I am delighted and frankly amazed by the enthusiastic outpouring of support by chefs and ravenous guests, who eagerly anticipate this special event year after year." Schaffran called the event "truly a sensory experience with something for everyone."
Along with English and his restaurants, the event will include bites provided by an array of sweet and savory chefs including Peter Ambrose, Erica Kalick, Todd Jacobs, Gil Chico, Greg Grossman, Fabiola Scarbrough, and Jason and Therese Belkin, just to name a few. "The best part is that every morsel of food and sip of wine and tequila have been generously donated by all of our gracious chefs and vendors," said Schaffran.
The Feast is not the only event to benefit the SWCRF this weekend. The fun kicks off Friday with a three-day trunk show at the home of Maria and Kenneth Fishel featuring Blumarine clothing and accessories, a line of clothing by Bibhu Mohapatara, which sells exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman's, Jennifer Argenti's clothing line Charlotte Brody, and Irene Lummertz exclusive fine jewelry line from Palm Beach.
