Game Highlights:

Winning pitcher Matt Hansen had the best game of his varsity baseball career, excelling on both the pitcher's mound and at the plate for the Clippers. Hansen pitched a two-hitter, allowed no earned runs, and struck out eight Whalers batters while helping his cause by going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Southold/Greenport senior Kyle Charters went 4-for-4 with an RBI.

Wednesday, April 12

Southold/Greenport 11, Pierson 3

Game Highlights:

Kyle Charters pitched a two-hitter for the Clippers as they won their season series against Pierson two games to one. Charters, who scored on a wild pitch in the third inning on what would later prove to be the game-winning run, was masterful on the mound, allowing only one earned run and striking out seven Pierson hitters.

Bishop McGann/Mercy 8, Smithtown Christian 3

Game Highlights:

Mercy's Eric Coome picked up his first win of the season, striking out seven Smithtown Christian batters and allowing only one earned run in four innings pitched. Chris DeGennaro led the Monarchs hitting attack, going 2-for-3 including belting his team-leading second home run of the season and adding three RBI.

Varsity Softball

Tuesday, April 11

Riverhead 9, Copiague 0

Game Highlights:

Riverhead's Laurie Edwards struck out a season-high 14 batters and allowed only one hit and two walks in six innings pitched to record her 52nd career varsity win. Edwards also hit her team-leading third home run of the season and Melissa Corwin added a home run.
